My package arrived!
it was an exciting moment, coming downstairs this morning to find my package waiting for me! My mum and sister watched in bemusement as I photographed it and then unwrapped all the little parcels inside! Once I was done it looked like this:
There were lots of lovely goodies inside, based off my picture being of the sea, and very cleverly, my posts on ravelry boards!
Fibre-wise there was a skein of Cherry Hill sock yarn, in a lovely bluey greeney colourway, some sari silk threads for spinning, and a bundle of combed merino tops in sea green and turqoise with a sandy colour in there too! very sea-y! There was also a book of crochet hat patterns and two sets of gorgeous ceramic buttons - one with tall sailing ships on (i'm going sailing on a tall ship next week!) and one with seahorses on :-)
Then came the treats! A "Big Blue" bath ballistic from Lush - it has sea salt and seaweed in it! Some posh chocolate with orangey bits in, as well as a chocolate orange and some mini chocolate bars and gummy sweets :-D
And the bit that made me giggle: a Dr. Who shiny pencil case with a Dalek on it!! Inside that is a Dr. Who pen and pencil, a ruler that says EXTERMINATE on it, and a rubber with the face of Dalek Sek on it. Over the course of the swap Tiggerbee and me were exchanging emails on the various developments in the sci fi programmes we watch, so this will be a lovely reminder of my swap pal, as well as being a handy thing to take to lectures!
Yaay! Thanks again Tiggerbee, I'll definitely be participating in a swap in the future! Now I just have to finish off my package and sent it :-)

Question of the week, number 6!
Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by? Pink Floyd i think.
What was the last song you listened to? I listened to the radio 1 chart for the first time in about a million years yesterday so whatever was on there...
What’s your favorite local band? Baghdaddies :-) http://www.baghdaddies.com/
What’s the worst CD/record/etc. you’ve ever bought? worst. hmm i don't like saying things are bad. but the most disappointing was Pablo Honey by Radiohead. I don't like their rock stuff :-(
What was the first single/album you ever bought? well I didn't go into the shop and buy it, my dad did cos i asked him if we could get it. but it was spice world by the spice girls!
Monday, 14 July 2008
Question of the Week 5
Monday, 7 July 2008
question of the week number 4!
What is your favourite thing that you have knit? The thing I most enjoyed knitting was a hat from Jaeger Roma. I got the yarn in a swap and it was so soft and yummy that I had to make it into something right away! it was supposed to be a slouchy beret type hat, turned out as a beanie but i don't mind its still a lovely soft hat to wear, and i think its pretty
What are your favourite knitblogs? hmm i've been trying out knit blogs and i'm not really amazed by any! i prefer online comics like dinosaur comics
What is the most amazing knitted thing you have seen?
Well i've seen some pretty intricate things knitted and appreciate the time and effort that went into them. but if they're ugly then it seems a bit of a waste, and a lot of them are. i like things that are simple but pretty :-) or that look harder than they actually are!
What is your favourite knitted item to wear? Post a picture if you can.
at the moment, it is the aforementioned hat:
i went to look through my flickr at my FOs and realised I'm not very good at making jumpers i like wearing. partly because i always make them out of wool and then have to wear long sleeve tops underneath cos i itch, and then its never quite cold enough to wear them! oops. i've got a cardigan waiting to be made out of (guess what!) jaeger roma though, and a something to be made out of colinette point 5 which i am deliberately designing to let some heat out, so that hopefully i can wear it!
realised as i was writing this that i haven't really answered half the questions! ah well such is life!
Monday, 30 June 2008
question of the week 3!
hmm i just realised that my spoiler knows this already but hey!
Is there a TV programme you watch religiously?
several! namely doctor who, heroes and at the moment battlestar galactica on DVD. yep it is possible to watch a DVD religiously!
What TV programme(s) do you avoid like the plague?
soaps. most reality tv although i do like Top Model! its a guilty pleasure!
Is there a TV programme that you find works particularly well for knitting along to?
hmmm well i have to be selective in my telly knitting to make sure its nothing too complicated, so i can usually watch most things. although my bloke likes formula one and that doesn't work too well as you have to be watching all the time. but i seem to manage pretty well with the sci fi!
What was/is your favourite kids TV programme?
from my childhood, captain scarlet was a biggie. stoppit and tidy up, the demon headmaster! erm i'm sure i'm missing something big, i'll probably remember and have to come and add it!

Question of the Week #2
The first invitation would go out to the Dalai Lama, because I think he is one of the wisest, most straightforward and kind people on the planet.
I'd also like to invite Henri Matisse. I love the way he uses colour and lines and I would like to hear from him how he works and what it is like to live in such an exciting time as the end of the 19th century/beginning of the 20th.
The third guest would be Bjork. I like her creative energy and that she tries lots of new things in her music (whether they work or not); I think she's refreshing.
The three of them would have sparkling, exciting, inspirational conversations, and I would be listening breathlessly, and if it is a long evening I will overcome my shyness and ask them all hundreds of questions.
And now I have to find out how to do the permalink stuff...said aardvarkentje with a sigh
Friday, 13 June 2008
Question contest week 1!
What are you doing to participate in WWKIP day on Saturday?
Unfortunately I have a project to be doing, but I usually knit in public quite a lot so I don't feel particularly guilty about it :-D
What is the strangest place you have ever knit?
The most difficult place was in a theatre - too dark!
Erm I've knit on various forms of transport (although not while I was in charge of the vehicle...)
ooh I know! I've knit on a tall sailing ship. And I think I might even have a picture... yes I do!
You can just about see it can't you? It was a sock, which I recently undid because I only ever did a couple of centimetres of the second sock... oops! And it is on a ship, honest - you can see the sea in the top right hand corner :-)

My swap quastionnaire!
Part One: Crafting
Do you knit, crochet, or both? both
What do you like to make? Hats and scarves, occasional wristwarmers. Not got as far as gloves yet. Would like to make more bags but I’m scared of (to lazy to bother) lining them. I do make bigger projects like cardigans and jumpers but I always have a smaller project on the go for portability and for quicker gratification. Except socks! The yarn is too thin and it takes ages! I made one and a bit then frogged the lot.
Do you have a favourite project? At the moment it’s a cabled hat I made from jaeger roma, its so soft and not too hot I’ve been wearing it all the time at the moment even though I don’t really need to.
Do you have a favourite type of fiber or brand of yarn? Too many! I love pure wool yarns but my skin finds them itchy so I’m trying out plant fibres at the moment. My most recent favourite yarn is jaeger roma which I like so much I bought and swapped for rather a lot of it. I really like the recycled sari silk yarn that is all different colours, as well as the sari silk waste you can get to spin stuff from. I really love intense colours so any noro yarn is good too!
Do you have a least favourite type of yarn? Mohair and boucle
Do you do any other crafts? I spindle spin J and do wet felting sometimes too
Do you knit in public? If so where do you like knitting and what is your "portable" project? My portable project at the moment is a roll-brim hat I’m making out of my first good amount of hand spun yarn
What do you carry your "portable" knitting in? I re-use plastic shopping bags but the needles poke holes in them. I’ve got too many WIPs at the moment for the number of project bags I’ve got, which is not very many!
Are there any knitting gifts (book, toy, yarn, item, tool) that you have been lusting over? Oooh rowan summer tweed, cherry tree hill supersock merino (gorgeous colours). twinkle's big city knits, i want to knit the twinkle hoody with some colinette i've got. i've just about come to the conclusion that i will have to buy the book tho as there are no similar patterns online. i've been collecting balls of green jaeger matchmaker recently, not entirely sure what for but i'll figure it out
Part Two: Your Favourites
What is your favourite colour? Teal, grey, blue-base greens, turquoise, rainbow coloured stuff. purple, deep blues
What is your least favourite colour? Yellow and orange
What scents/smells do you like? What don’t you like? I like fruity and spicy smells. I don’t like vanilla scented things so much. I love the smell of lilies and honeysuckle.
How do you like to pamper yourself? (bubble bath, hand creams, massage, manicure) I like to have a big hot bath with a Lush bath thingy. With chocolate and a good book J or sometimes radio 4. I get dry skin and excema so I have to use special skin cream so I don’t tend to pamper myself with creams.
What goodies to you like to eat? (chocolate, biscuits, sweets, crisps etc) chocolate! I like chocolate - dark chocolate and orange flavour chocolate, and honeycomb like in crunchie bars, or chocolate with nuts in or truffles or erm well anything really. Basically I’m happy with anything sweet!
Do you prefer tea or coffee while you knit? Any particular kind? I like tea but I don’t drink too much black tea cos of the caffeine. I like green tea and rosehip tea a lot, and fruit tea made with berries like raspberry and cranberry
Do you listen to/watch anything while you knit? (TVshow-Along, movies, music, podcasts, audiobooks) I watch sci fi with my boyfriend – dr who, battlestar galactica and heroes, ooh and serenity. not sure if heroes counts as sci fi but I watch it anyway J sometimes I listen to Russell brand’s podcast while knitting, or the radio 4 Friday night comedy podcast
Part Three: About you, Living & Past-times
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be (and why)? Hmm I’d be something soft – I love snuggling up in soft cushions and things, and if I walk past something fluffy or soft in a shop I have to stroke it, yarn or not! I’d probably quite boldly coloured – I am outspoken and often argumentative. I think I’d be a self striping/variegated yarn cos I like stripes and I’ve got lots of different interests. So soft, brightly coloured and stripey. A regia-style self striping sock yarn with erm silk in it?
Where do you live in the UK? (General idea not address) the north east, which is also where I’m from
Have you always lived here, or did you grow up somewhere else? I grew up in the north east, Leicestershire and South Yorkshire, and now I’ve come back to the north east for uni J
What is your favourite place in the UK? Can I say the coast? I really like spending time in the sea, on the sea, on the beach and in the general area of the coast
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go? Japan without hesitation! I love the food and I’d love to immerse myself in the culture and language
What other hobbies do you have? Swing dance - aka lindy hop, jitterbug etc. I love it and it gives me an excuse to get dressed up in 20s, 30s and 40s style clothing :-D , scuba diving – just qualified recently and am looking forward to a summer of exploring underwater, watching anime (Japanese cartoons) – ones I like include naruto, studio ghibli films, and chobits. I volunteer for the Jubilee Sailing Trust (http://www.jst.org.uk) and so I go tall ship sailing every year which I really enjoy.
Part Four: The Theme
this is a picture of the sea on a lovely day earlier this year when me and my friends went for a walk along the coast in northumbria. I think the colours are all gorgeous and I love the amazing variety of life you can find along the coast. On this particular walk there was a wide variety of types of beaches too it was brill. We sat on the sand and ate our sandwiches and listened to the waves and everything was good :-)
Final Part:
Any allergies/preferences (fiber-wise or treat-wise)? nope
Anything we missed that you’d like your partner to know? I really like dressing up for fancy dress parties J and trying new things. and I hate sewing in ends – I knit in the round whenever I can. I don’t have a blog because I can’t be arsed and because I didn’t think anyone would read it.

Yes; at knitting-group, or sometimes in a train or in a cafe or in a park. Socks or a shawl, anything I am working on at that moment; I am trying to be wise and only work on one project at a time : ).
What do you carry your "portable" knitting in?
I don’t have a special bag and usually put it in a dull plastic bag inside my backpack...
Are there any knitting gifts (book, toy, yarn, item, tool) that you have been lusting over?
No, not really, although I do want to learn to knit or crotchet strange creatures (ones with character). I’d also like to felt more, either by hand-felting wool tops, or felting knitted items; bags for instance. Or if you’re into crocheting or knitting individuals/silly adorable creatures, I’d love to adopt one : )
Part Two: Your Favourites
What is your favourite colour?
Green + bright colours
What is your least favourite colour?
Pastels
What scents/smells do you like? What don’t you like?
That’s hard, I guess I like spicy and green smells. Not too sweet.
How do you like to pamper yourself? (bubble bath, hand creams, massage, manicure)
A hot bath to unwind, but a real treat is just reading a book on the couch in my pyjama's : )I am not really into cosmetics, but do like parfum once in a while. Sometimes pamper myself with a bunch of flowers, although I'm not sure whether that counts as 'pampering'.
What goodies to you like to eat? (chocolate, biscuits, sweets, crisps etc)
Chocolates, biscuits, and recently: Jellybeans
Do you prefer tea or coffee while you knit? Any particular kind?
Tea. Lapsang souchong, rose pouchong, sometimes Chai Tea. However, no fruity teas (I DO sound picky : ).
Do you listen to/watch anything while you knit? (TV show-Along, movies, music, podcasts, audio books).
I try to watch television while knitting but am not good at it : ). Maybe I should try an audio book; would love to try to the Dalai Lama talking, to see if that works : ) Otherwise I only manage to follow a film or program if I’ve seen it lots of times before or if it is a bit slow, so I do manage to knit with: Amélie, Wallace & Gromit, and QI. Sometimes listen to Bic Runga, classical music or KT Tunstall or lots of other things.
Part Three: About you, Living & Past-times
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be (and why)? Hmmm… probably Noro Blossom. Colourful, a mix, eclectic, changing colour all the time (unpredictable perhaps), soft.

Have you always lived here, or did you grow up somewhere else?
Born in
What is your favourite place in the

What other hobbies do you have?
Photography, trying to make plants grow on the balcony, reading, aikido.
Part Four: The Theme
Picked this one, because:
The lightness of spring and newness of spring leaves
+ I like the lines and blurriness in this picture
Final Part: Any allergies/preferences (fibre-wise or treat-wise)?
Don’t particularly like synthetic fibres or silk. Well, I actually LOVE the look and feel of silk, but not the idea of where it came from : /
